Starting Thursday, I'll be reporting from the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis for the first time as the lead writer and insider at Detroitlions.com.
I've received hundreds of emails and Tweets over the last month with suggestions from Lions fans (and pleads in some cases) about players they're hoping to see the team draft in April. That's the fun part about the draft: all the speculation and guessing and hoping there is leading up to it.
I'm excited for the opportunity to talk to all of these players we've speculated about over the last month and get better idea of how they might, or might not, fit into the Lions' plans.
The fans have voted on Detroitlions.com on which players they'd like to know more about and a lot of the players I had on my list were also at the top of that poll.
I'll be talking to the top players at the positions I feel are needs for the Lions and will get some insight into their personalities to go along with their 40-yard dash times and bench press numbers.
Head coach Jim Schwartz and general manager Martin Mayhew will be speaking with the media and the website down in Indy and there are always opportunities to speak with some of the league's best evaluators and scouts and get their perspectives on the Lions, too.
The website will have a feature on the NFC North teams every day and we'll also take a look at some of the local players who are participating.
The best part about covering the combine is I usually leave it with a better understanding of which players might be in the mix for the Lions and which ones I can scratch off the list.
The combine is the first time we get an idea of who the Lions might like, who they're interviewing and which ones they plan to bring back to Allen Park.
The combine is a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun, and can be very informative.
