The team has claimed safety Isa Abdul-Quddus off waivers from the New Orleans Saints. He still has to pass a physical in Allen Park.

Abdul-Quddus was waived on Jan. 7, but the claim process in the NFL didn’t start until this week following the Super Bowl.

Abdul-Quddus spent the past three seasons as a backup safety and special teams player for New Orleans. He’s started four games since joining the Saints in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Fordham.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound free safety started three games in 2012, and has 74 career tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and nine passes defended in 42 career games.

The Lions have Glover Quin, Louis Delmas, Don Carey, DeJon Gomes and now Abdul-Quddus under contract at the safety position.
