The Detroit Lions and Jon Baldwin are hoping the third team is a charm.

The Lions claimed Baldwin off waivers from San Francisco on Monday, and released receiver Reese Wiggins to make room on the roster.

Baldwin was drafted by Kansas City with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2011 draft, but lasted just two seasons with the Chiefs before he was traded to San Francisco before last season. The 49ers released him after just one season on Sunday.

Baldwin is the second receiver the Lions have added since the start of camp (Quintin Payton) as they search for competition and depth behind Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Jeremy Ross.

Baldwin, 24, has good size at 6-foot-4, but has just 44 catches for 607 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons. He caught three passes for 28 yards in seven games with San Francisco last year.

He will join the competition with Kevin Ogletree, Ryan Broyles, Kris Durham, Corey Fuller, TJ Jones, Patrick Edwards, Andrew Peacock and Payton for the remaining one or two roster spots.
