PRACTICE REPORT: Reggie Bush sits out again, Delmas back

Posted Sep 19, 2013

The Lions got Louis Delmas back on the practice field Thursday but are still without three offensive starters.

Starting safety Louis Delmasreturned to the practice field Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's practice.

The Lions have been managing Delmas’ practice time all year because of that sore left knee.

The first two weeks of the season, the Lions have held him on Fridays, so it was a slight red flag on Wednesday when Delmas didn’t participate in practice. His return Thursday is certainly good news for the Lions, who are already down a key reserve at safety in Don Carey. Carey did not practice again Thursday with that hamstring injury.

Offensive starters Reggie Bush (knee), Patrick Edwards (ankle) and Jason Fox (groin) also didn't participate in the portion of practice open the media for a second consecutive day.

Bush wouldn’t necessarily have to practice this week to play on Sunday. The Lions could take that decision right up to gameday if they had to.

Bush told WXYT in an interview Thursday that he’s “optimistic” he could play Sunday.

The Lions will release designations for Sunday’s game in Washington on Friday.

Linebacker Ashlee Palmer also missed practice Thursday. He was dealing with an ankle injury last week, but played in Arizona last week and practiced Wednesday.

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley practiced for a second day in a row and his prognosis for Sunday is looking good at this point.
