Lions cornerback depth to be tested with Houston and Slay doubtful

Posted Dec 14, 2013

The Lions will rely on Rashean Mathis, Bill Bentley, Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood to get the job done at cornerback Monday night with Chris Houston and Darius Slay doubtful to play

The Lions depth in the secondary will tested Monday night.

Starting cornerback Chris Houston missed his third practice of the week today with a toe injury and he was listed as doubtful to play vs. Baltimore on Saturday’s injury report.

Backup cornerback Darius Slay (knee) also sat out of practice all week and joins Houston as doubtful to play.

That leaves just four healthy cornerbacks – Rashean Mathis, Bill Bentley, Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood – for Monday’s key nationally televised matchup.

The Lions will likely start second-year cornerback Jonte Green in place of Chris Houston and leave Bill Bentley inside in the nickel. Expect Chris Greenwood to be active for his first NFL game for depth.

Running back Reggie Bush (calf) practiced Friday and Saturday after missing last week’s game at Philadelphia, but is listed as questionable.

Defensive end Ziggy Ansah (shoulder) is also listed as questionable, but like Bush, he practice Friday and Saturday, and looks on track to play.

Safety Louis Delmas (knee), receiver Calvin Johnson (knee), defensive end Israel Idonije (knee), tackle LaAdrian Waddle (elbow), safety John Wendling (illness) are all probable.
