The Lions claimed Brown after Buffalo released him late last week.
Brown, 6-foot-4, 260 pounds, will try to earn a roster spot as a versatile defensive end/rush linebacker player.
“We’re trying to find maybe a little bit different flavor in that regard, trying to find maybe another guy that can do it,” Caldwell said of adding to the team's edge-rushing capabilities at the NFL Annual Meetings last month.
“He may be in our program right now, in our organization. We have to see how he fits within our scheme, but obviously, anybody can use a flamethrower, and sometimes you find one here or there.”

Brown went undrafted out of Clemson two years ago and has yet to appear in a regular season game. He’s had stints with San Francisco and Washington before joining the Bills for training camp last year.
