Ziggy Ansah returned to the practice field on Friday, but won't make his return to game action today in Pittsburgh.

A sore left ankle will keep the rookie defensive end out of the lineup for a second consecutive week. Ansah was injured Oct. 27 against Dallas and only returned to the practice field in limited fashion on Friday.

He tested the ankle out before the game under the watchful eye of trainers, defensive line coaches and general manager Martin Mayhew, but it was determined he wasn't ready to go.

Rookie Devin Taylor will make his second start in place of Ansah.

Detroit will also be without receiver Nate Burleson, who was doubtful coming in, but has been downgraded to out. He hasn't played since breaking his forearm in a car wreck after a Week 3 game in Washington.

Right tackle Corey Hilliard (knee), cornerback Bill Bentley (knee) and running back Montell Owens (knee) are also inactive.

Hilliard returned to the practice field for the first time this week since injuring his knee against Cincinnati, but there's no reason for the Lions to rush his return with rookie LaAdrian Waddle playing so well. Waddle will get his third start of the season today.

Bentley will miss his second consecutive game because of a knee injury he suffered against Dallas. Don Carey has played well in the nickel role the last two weeks and he's expected to get the call in that role again today.

Quarterback Kellen Moore and guard Leroy Harris are also inactive.
