The Detroit Lions have been on the lookout for a cover safety to help improve their secondary and think Glover Quin might be their man.

Quin was set to visit Allen Park Tuesday night, shortly after the free agent signing period began, according to sources.

The former Texan is considered one of the top young safeties in the league and an ascending four-year starter.

A cornerback his first two seasons after the Texans drafted him in the fourth round out of New Mexico, Quin was moved to safety in 2011 and has flourished ever since.

He's started every game the last three seasons with 246 tackles and five interceptions. He’s a player who can man up in the slot and cover some of the league’s best tight ends and also take away the deep portion of the field.

The Lions gave up 13 pass plays of 40-plus yards last year, second most in the NFL.

Regarding other free agent safeties, the Lions agreed to a one-year deal with safety Amari Spievey on Tuesday, according to reports, but could still lose unrestricted free agent starter Louis Delmas.
