"My wife's flight (to Texas) was a 10 a.m. this morning. I was going to drive, so it's good I got the call yesterday or I'd be in the middle of Tennessee somewhere," Muhlbach told Detroitlions.com.
His wife Alix canceled her flight and now the Muhlbachs will be spending next week in Hawaii … not Texas.
"I definitely don't mind readjusting my plans for this," he said with a smile.
Muhlbach was selected to his first-ever Pro Bowl by the Packers' coaches, who are coaching the NFC squad.
The thing about long snappers is that they're only ever really noticed within a football game when they either make a tackle on special teams or mess up a snap. The attention that goes along with the Pro Bowl is something Muhlbach is still getting used to.
"It's awkward," he said. "I definitely like the anonymity of my job. I'm not used to doing interviews and it's all kind of crazy. It's good though, I'm just glad I get to represent the Lions and get to experience this venue and the Pro Bowl with the other guys."
Muhlbach recently finished his ninth year as the team's long snapper and is the first-ever Lions specialist who did not kick, punt or return to play special teams in the Pro Bowl.
"Don is a huge part of my success and a significant part of our kicking game," said kicker
"With the field goal process, it all starts with him. He works hard and takes great pride in what he does. This is a great honor for him and is well deserved."
In 2012, Muhlbach was a key piece to Hanson breaking the team's all-time single-season scoring record, as he snapped for 32 field goals and 38 PATs.
Muhlbach is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and said it doesn't hurt his free agent status by putting "Pro Bowl" in front of his title. He did put it in a little bit of perspective, though.

The Pro Bowl is Sunday, Jan 26. Muhlbach and his wife leave for Hawaii Monday and will return the following Monday before finally getting back to Texas.
They don't mind this little detour, though.
