Rookie cornerback Darius Slay will make his third start of the season today against Green Bay

Rookie cornerback Darius Slay will make his third start of the season today vs. Green Bay with starter Chris Houston inactive.

Houston injured his foot in last week’s loss to Tampa Bay and left the game early in the fourth quarter. He did not return and did not practice all week.

Slay started the first two games of the season, but was replaced by veteran Rashean Mathis late in both games. Mathis took over starting duties Week 3 and hasn’t relinquished the role since.

Slay has played in a reserve role a number of times this season, including the fourth quarter last week after Houston left.

Joining Houston among the list of inactives is: receiver Michael Spurlock, quarterback Kellen Moore, running back Mikel Leshoure, guard Leroy Harris, guard Rodney Austin and tackle Corey Hilliard.

The Lions signed Austin from the practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday. The team released defensive end Austen Lane to make room on the 53-man roster.
