Lions make several transactions

The Lions roster underwent several changes heading into the team's Week 7 game vs. Minnesota.

The Lions made a few transactions Tuesday to bolster the running back position, but they weren’t done there.

The team also claimed OT Michael Ola off waivers from the San Diego Chargers, per the transaction wire. The Lions don’t officially announce waiver claims until a physical is passed and it becomes official with the league office.

To make room for Ola, the team released reserve center Taylor Boggs.

Ola, 27, was active in just two games for the Chargers this year, but played in 13 games for the Bears last season. He started 12 of those games both as a tackle and a guard.

Ola started his professional career in the Arena League in 2012 and 2013.

Could the Lions be looking to bolster their right tackle spot with this move? It's been a problem area for them through the first six games of the season.

The Lions also signed receiver Ryan Spadola to their practice squad. He takes the place of tackle Jordan Mills, who was signed off the Lions’ practice squad by the Buffalo Bills.

Spadola (6-1, 205), an undrafted free agent out of Lehigh in 2013, has spent time with the Jets and Dolphins and has also had stints on the practice squads of the Falcons and Cardinals.
