Game Notes: Lions at 49ers

JOHNSON SURPASSES 6,000 CAREER RECEIVING YARDS

• In the second quarter at San Francisco (9/16), WR Calvin Johnson’s 24-yard reception moved his receiving totals over 6,000 for his career. By reaching 6,000 receiving yards in his 78th career game, he became the eighth player in NFL history to reach 6,000 yards in 80 games or less.
• He also became the third receiver in Lions history to reach 6,000 career yards. He joined WR Herman Moore and WR Johnnie Morton as the only Lions players to reach that mark. He accomplished this in the least amount of games. Moore tallied 6,000 receiving yards in his 86th career game and Morton did so in his 119th career game.

LIONS FORCE TURNOVER ON KICKOFF

• Following the Lions first field goal at San Francisco, LB Tahir Whitehead registered his first career forced fumble that was recovered by WR Kassim Osgood, a three-time special teams Pro Bowler, on the ensuing kickoff. It stopped the 49ers streak of 26-straight quarters without a turnover, the second longest streak in NFL history

HANSON’S 40 -YARD FIELD GOALS

• K Jason Hanson’s 41-yard field goal in the first quarter at San Francisco (9/16) that moved the score to 7-6 was his 173rd career 40 -yard field goal of his career. He is now tied with K Gary Anderson (173) for the second-most 40 -yard field goals in NFL history.

BACKUS’ FRANCHISE RECORD FOR OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

• With an appearing in tonight’s game at San Francisco (9/16), T Jeff Backus has now played in 178 career games, setting a new franchise record for the most career games played by an offensive lineman in franchise history. He surpassed C Kevin Glover who played in 177 career games during his career (1985-97).
• Overall, Backus is now sixth all-time on the team’s career games played list.
• Tonight’s game is Backus’ 178th consecutive start of his 12-year career.

RAIOLA MOVES UP

• Lions Center Dominic Raiola moved his career games tally to 174 by playing in tonight’s game at San Francisco 99/16) and is now tied with K Eddie Murray (1980-91) for ninth on the Lions career games played list.
