WXYZ-TV presents Detroit Lions Draft Special

Part of unique WXYZ/Detroit Lions partnership

WXYZ-TV brings viewers an exciting, insider’s LIVE look at the Detroit Lions NFL draft on Thursday, April 25, from 7-8 p.m.   Lions Draft: Before the Snap will be hosted by 7 Action News sports director Tom Leyden with NFL analyst Rob Rubick.  7 Action News sports reporter Brad Galli, Detroit Lions color analyst Jim Brandstatter, and Lions Preseason TV play-by-play announcer Matt Shepard will also provide live analysis from the Detroit Lions official draft party at the Gem Theater in Detroit.  

7 Action News reporter David Solano will join Detroit Lions Insider Tim Twentyman live from the Detroit Lions headquarters in Allen Park. Former Lions great Herman Moore will keep viewers up to date with live reports from the NFL draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

“WXYZ is pleased to be able to deliver the excitement of the NFL draft to our viewers,” said E.W. Scripps divisional GM and WXYZ vice-president and general manager Ed Fernandez.

In addition, the show will feature interviews with Detroit Lions General Manager Martin Mayhew and Detroit Lions President Tom Lewand.   

7 Action News will use cutting-edge UTouch technology to examine the line-up of potential draft picks.  The show will also include profiles of top local players who are expected to be drafted in early rounds, including Michigan State defensive end William Gholston and former Central Michigan star Eric Fisher.

Viewers will have an opportunity to ask questions live during the show via Twitter and offer their top draft picks suggestions, using the hashtag #LionsDraft.

WXYZ is home to the OFFICIAL weekly Lions pregame show, Ford Lions Report LIVE, from 11-noon every Sunday before the game.  WXYZ’s partnership with the Detroit Lions also includes broadcasting four preseason games and training camp updates, as well as the coaches report: Schwartz Sez, and a player segment: Inside the Huddle, on 7 Action News during the regular season.
