Lions sign RB Mike Bell and RB Jerome Harrison

Posted Aug 9, 2011

In the wake of the injury to RB Mikel Leshoure, the Detroit Lions have signed a pair of sixth-year running backs: Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison.

Harrison, 5-9 and 205 pounds, was selected in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

He spent his first four seasons there, traded five games into the 2010 season for Bell, who was ironically with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Harrison averaged 4.8 yards over five seasons and has seven touchdowns.

Bell, 6-0 and 225 pounds, was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie in 2006, finishing the year with 835 all-purpose yards (667 rushing) and nine touchdowns.

He suffered a concussion three games into the 2007 season and wouldn't return to the starting line-up.

Bell spent some of 2008 and then all of 2009 in New Orleans, helping the Saints become Super Bowl Champions  with 654 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

He was with Philadelphia for the first five games of 2010 before being traded to Cleveland for Harrison.
