Lions’ players and coaches donned their golf gear Tuesday to help raise money for a good cause, participating in the 20th annual Detroit Lions Invitational at The TPC in Michigan.

The event raised an estimated $75,000 for Detroit Lions Charities and included approximately 24 current players participating.

“It’s good to get out on the golf course with teammates and allow these sponsors to see our faces,” said wide receiver Calvin Johnson. “It’s a bonus that all of this is for a good cause.”

Though not all of the players who attended the event were able to golf, many made use of their time by mingling and taking photos with the guests.

Head Coach and chairman of the event Jim Schwartz and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch stayed at the first and 10th tee boxes to pose for photos with each group.

With the tournament being a scramble, Schwartz also hit one ball off the tee for each team, alternating between the first and 10th holes.

“I think I’ve done pretty well,” he said regarding his drives. “I’ve probably hit about 50-percent.”

The team champion this year was Karmanos Cancer Institute, which tied two-time defending DLI champion Innovative Media at 15-under par.

KCI team of Nick Karmanos, Brian Eisenberg, Pete Joelson, Marc Schechter and defensive end Jared DeVries won the event in a five-hole tiebreaker over Innovative Media.

Since the first DLI in 1991, approximately $1.9 million has been raised for Detroit Lions Charities to benefit charities throughout Michigan.
