Lift Up America was founded in 2004 with a mission of giving back to communities across the country and a vision of providing important necessities to families and instilling hope in the hearts of America’s less-fortunate. Lift Up America runs solely on the caring donations of corporations and individuals across the country. Since 2000, Tyson Foods has been a leader in the fight against hunger. The company is actively engaged in food-donation events and fund-raising activities year round to benefit those in need. They have donated more than 216 million meals to over 950 food banks and agencies around the country since 2000. Last year alone, Tyson donated nearly 12 million pounds of protein to Feeding America.
Gleaners Community Food Bank, in collaboration with its member agencies and with much community backing and support, provides donated food and personal care products to people in need in southeastern Michigan. Gleaners is committed to adopting the best practices and cost effective systems and procedures to achieve the highest possible return on its human and financial resources. Gleaners fulfills its role with a sense of compassion and urgency, recognizing that in many instances, it is the only source of emergency food for persons in need.
This was the 4th year and 5th event of the Lift up America and Tyson partnership in Detroit. Since 2006 these two incredible corporations have brought more than 150,000 pounds of chicken to Detroit. The event was highly successful again this year, and players and volunteers alike had a great time loading the food into vehicles and giving back to the city.
