Game Notes: Lions at 49ers

  • LB Larry Foote is inactive for today’s game due to a foot injury. Foote had previously started 94-straight games. Prior to his de-activation, Foote was ranked third among active linebackers for consecutive games started. He had started every game since the beginning of the 2004 season.
  • Lions T Jeff Backus made his 143rd consecutive start in today’s game. He has the longest streak of consecutive starts among offensive linemen in the NFL and he is fifth among active players.
  • K Jason Hanson has now appeared in 286 career games, the most in franchise history.
  • Lions QB Drew Stanton, who was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft, started his first career game today.
  • The Lions jumped on top of the 49ers with a 15-play, 76-yard drive (7:59) that was capped off by a 27-yard field goal by Hanson.
  • The team gained 58 yards on the ground on 9 carries (6.4 avg).
  • On the Lions opening offensive play of the game, WR Calvin Johnson took the handoff on the reverse and rushed for 19 yards. It was his second longest run of his three-year career. Johnson also recorded a 13-yard rush on a backward screen pass that moved the Lions deeper in 49ers territory.
  • With a drive that started at the 49ers own 12-yard line following the Lions kickoff, the Lions pushed the 49ers backwards on their opening offensive possession in the first quarter. The three-and-out drive resulted in minus-8 total yards for San Francisco.
  • On the first play, DE Jason Hunter recorded his fourth sack (4 yards loss) of the year.
  • With the 49ers facing 3rd-and-13, the Lions dropped RB Frank Gore for a loss of 5 yards. The tackle for loss was registed by DT Landon Cohen.
  • With the 49ers driving deep in Lions territory early in the second quarter, San Francisco went for the first down on 4th-and-1 at the Lions 24-yard line. Gore was halted by Lions rookie LB DeAndre Levy, who is getting his first career start at middle linebacker, for no gain. The stop gave the ball back to the Lions.
  • On the season, the Lions defense has recorded four stops on 4th-and-1 plays and opponents overall conversion is 4-of-8 for 50.0 pct. On 4th-and-1 plays, the Lions have stopped three rushing plays and one pass play.
  • Lions DT Grady Jackson blocked a 49ers 28-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter. It was the Lions second field goal block of the season (DE Dewayne White at NO 9/13).
  • The blocked field goal was the Lions 24th blocked kick since the beginning of the 2001 season, the most in the NFL. It marks the eighth season in the past nine that the Lions have recorded at least two blocks in a season.
  • Jackson’s blocked field goal was the Lions 17th since the 2001 season, also an NFL high.
