Calvin Johnson Jr. Foundation Awards Scholarships to Six Metro Detroit Graduating Football Players

ALLEN PARK, MICH. - Six Metro Detroit recently graduated football players have received $2,000 college scholarships from Detroit Lions’ receiver Calvin Johnson through his Calvin Johnson Jr. Foundation. The six recipients were honored by Calvin and his foundation at a dinner at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit, July 17.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

The foundation was established two years ago to assist the self-development and empowerment of aspiring youth to help them to overcome seemingly difficult situations. The initial focus was on Johnson’s hometown of Metro Atlanta and now the veteran Lion has included his adopted hometown – Metro Detroit.

To qualify for a scholarship the recipients must have been graduating seniors this spring, already have a partial college football scholarship, and had a least a 2.5 grade point average upon their high school graduation.
